In this interview Dr. Catherine McCall explains her justification for doing CoPI with children and argues that intellect and emotion are not separate (a la Hume), and that the intellectual activity of logical reasoning about philosophical concepts is an emotional undertaking. According to McCall engaging in logical philosophical dialogue with others is a fundamental human activity at every age.
Dr. McCall also describes the reasons that educators and parents might choose to have CoPI with their pupils and children – citing the empirical evidence of improvement in mathematical computation skills and language comprehension skills of the children of all ages exposed to philosophising.
